Joseph Holmes's Images
My Images
Compare and Contrast:
All three of my images are very similar, yet very different than Joseph Holmes images. All three images represent the same general theme or idea conveyed through Holmes' images. The lily pads show a reflection through the water, the swirling leaves show a reflection of trees through the water and also leaves surrounding it, and the black oak trees show a sort of depth. However, the time of year my images were taken were a bit later into fall than when Holmes took his. In the swirling leaves image of mine, the leaves were already dead and there wasn't much color to them anymore, and also the same with the black oaks. The image of the lily pads I took were starting to die, so they had a different shade of green than Holmes' lily pads did.
Personal Artist Statement:
I, myself, love the outdoors, and my images convey the theme of nature, much like Holmes' images do. In the photo I took of trees, I was trying to show depth and leading lines to show movement through the trees by creating space. With the photo of the reflecting trees in the water, I really tried to show a viewpoint by taking the image from higher up to enhance the image and make it more unique. Although there is a lack of color, the image still has a lot of unity to it. For the image of the lily pads, the color of the lily pads was the emphasis of the image. I attempted an experimentation my reflecting the branches/leaves from the tree behind me into the water. Also, the texture of the lily pads help to unify the whole photograph.
